Stellar Property Global converted an old hostel into the hotel and runs it day to day through our rental team, ATS Luxury Stays. We announced the project in September 2024 and opened the hotel in March 2025. Five of the eight rooms face the sea. The flagship is the Rockstar Room, a first-floor suite with a private balcony over the bay. The hotel's restaurant is Smash Burger on the Beach, and the roof holds a sunset bar terrace for guests. Each room is listed on Airbnb, where the Rockstar Room holds 4.88 out of 5 from 26 reviews. South Beach Inn is not Villa South Beach, and it is not South Beach Resort and Beach Club, the new resort we are building across the road. ## Key facts - **Rooms:** 8, each with a private bathroom - **Sea-view rooms:** 5 - **Our work:** Conversion of an old hostel into a boutique hotel - **Opened:** March 2025 - **Setting:** Beachfront, Thong Krut, south Koh Samui - **Restaurant:** Smash Burger on the Beach - **Rooftop:** Sunset bar terrace for hotel guests - **Flagship room:** Rockstar Room: first-floor suite, sea-view balcony - **Airbnb, Rockstar Room:** 4.88 out of 5 from 26 reviews ## On the beach at Thong Krut Thong Krut is a fishing village with a pier at the southern tip of Koh Samui. It sits well away from the busy beaches of Chaweng and Lamai. ![Sea and pier in front of South Beach Inn, Thong Krut, Koh Samui](/api/media/file/mcp-60bf28634728ce0e008b908baf77a6ce-m072-south-beach-inn-inbody-after.webp?prefix=recovery%2Ff173b837-2622-4b01-9d86-3619c35d0036&2026-10-10T06%3A23%3A21.653Z) Sea and pier in front of South Beach Inn, Thong Krut, Koh Samui The hotel stands on the sand, with views out to Koh Tan and Pig Island. The beach here is for sunsets, loungers and the boat trips that leave from the pier. There is no pool at the Inn; that is coming with the resort across the road. ## How the build ran The building on this plot was an old hostel. We stripped it back and turned it into eight private rooms, each with its own bathroom, with a bar terrace on the roof. *On Instagram: [Hostel to boutique hotel transformation at South Beach Inn](https://www.instagram.com/p/DK9FkKvID0j/) We announced the project in September 2024 and posted the finished building in February 2025. A sunset launch party came first, and the hotel opened to guests in March 2025. We keep the dated record on this page so you can check the timeline for yourself. Read [how to vet a Koh Samui developer](/articles/is-off-plan-safe-koh-samui-vet-developer) for why that matters. ## The eight rooms The rooms run from ground-floor rooms with no sea view up to the Rockstar Room. Between them sit sea-view rooms on both floors, some with balconies. ![Guest room at South Beach Inn, Thong Krut, Koh Samui](/api/media/file/mcp-ee264444545051e9a5f0a3c19b628425-m073-south-beach-inn-inbody-after.webp?prefix=recovery%2Fc2469dc7-3608-4162-b38e-abd0194b8fbd&2026-10-10T06%3A23%3A41.711Z) Guest room at South Beach Inn, Thong Krut, Koh Samui Each room has its own Airbnb listing, and guests can also book direct or on Booking.com. ## Food, the rooftop and the fire show [Smash Burger on the Beach](/developments/smash-burger-on-the-beach) is the hotel's restaurant, on the sand by the pier. It opened alongside the hotel in March 2025, and breakfast was added in June 2025. ![Beachside dining deck at South Beach Inn, Thong Krut, Koh Samui](/api/media/file/mcp-66a5ad136e20f83c24586a4096212a85-m074-south-beach-inn-inbody-after.webp?prefix=recovery%2Fde6c67f6-ffe2-4c32-bb51-28bddc720a22&2026-10-10T06%3A24%3A00.930Z) Beachside dining deck at South Beach Inn, Thong Krut, Koh Samui *On Instagram: [Fire show night at South Beach Inn, Koh Samui](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNfeLMyxjNc/) On the roof there is a bar terrace for hotel guests, built for the sunset. Since August 2025 we have put on a fire show on the beach once a month, and in 2026 we added live music evenings. ## Still working on it We did not finish the conversion and walk away. We reworked the reception and the ground-floor terrace in April 2025, and refreshed the Rockstar Room that May. In April 2026 we renovated the entrance and the Rockstar Room again. *On Instagram: [Entrance renovation before and after at South Beach Inn](https://www.instagram.com/p/DXtfnKxE-OO/) Running the building ourselves shows us what to fix. We explain what that has taught us in [building for operations on Koh Samui](/articles/building-for-operations-koh-samui). ## Name check South Beach is the name of our places on this stretch of beach, at southbeach.co.th.
